Butch Perchan is in his 13th year as Senior Associate Athletic Director for External Affairs at Florida Gulf Coast University. One of the first athletic personnel to join FGCU, Perchan joined the staff in November, 2000. He also works closely with the University Advancement Office.
Since his arrival, Perchan has created and implemented all aspects of fundraising, marketing, and special events for the department. Under his direction, FGCU has developed one of the most successful fundraising programs in the NCAA, attracting more than $16 million in gifts during the past nine years. In addition, he has assisted with the design and creation of nearly $28 million in athletic facilities.
Prior to joining the staff at FGCU, Perchan was the Director of Athletics, Intramurals and Recreation at the University of Southern Colorado, a NCAA Division II program, from 1998 to 2000. While at USC, Perchan directed a $10.5 million campaign to upgrade athletic facilities.
He also spent four years as the Director of Athletics at Indiana University/Purdue University at Fort Wayne from 1994 to 1998, where he served as one of four university administrators in the development of a $40 million sports complex.
From 1974 to 1994, Perchan was an administrator at Trine University in Angola, Indiana, serving in the dual capacity of Director of Athletics and Director of Development for the university. During that same time he also served four years as the Dean of Students and as an assistant coach with the track and cross country programs. Under his direction, Tri-State, a 21-sport NAIA program, hosted five national championship tournaments on campus, including golf and women’s basketball. He also increased annual giving for athletics by 250% over a ten-year period. He was inducted into the Tri-State University Hall of Fame in 1995.
Perchan earned a bachelor’s degree from Ashland University in 1969 and a master’s degree from St. Francis College in 1978. A native of Aurora, Ohio, he is also a member of the Aurora High School Hall of Fame.
He and his wife, Dorothy, live in Fort Myers.
