William N. Blood (Billy Blood) was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities in September of 2009 and enters his ninth year with Florida Gulf Coast University. He was hired as the first facility manager for Alico Arena in December 2003 and was promoted to Assistant Director of Alico Arena and Special Events in November of 2007.
Blood's responsibilities include: oversight of athletic facilities and operations consisting of capital improvement projects, construction, scheduling, coordination of services, maintenance, budget management, conference tournament management and event reconciliation. Blood currently manages five full-time positions and upwards of fifty part-time event staff employees and volunteers in areas of game day operations, parking, concessions, customer service, event set-up and breakdown. The facilities staff also provide support to the box office and athletic ticket operations.
Blood gained valuable experience during his undergraduate studies at Slippery Rock University while serving as the Aeborsold Recreation Center building supervisor. After becoming the Alico Arena Manager at FGCU he took on scheduling of all athletic facilities, added two full-time positions, and doubled part-time event staff support. He has managed keynote University events such as FGCU Commencement, University Lecture Series that include Maya Angelou, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Colin Powell; special events such as Vice President Dick Cheney and Vice President Joe Biden campaign rallies and athletic events such as the 2007 NCAA Division II Women's South Regional Basketball Tournament, Pre-season and Post-season Women's National Independent Tournament and Atlantic Sun Conference Volleyball Tournament.
As a young facility manager, Blood takes most pride in the opportunity to help his staff learn positive characteristics that they will hopefully take with them as professionals following graduation. "I was blessed with a lot of great role models and positive influences growing up; from my parents to teachers and supervisors. Just as those people did, I hope to provide a positive influence and have an impact on my staff's lives." Originally from Conneautville, PA, Blood currently resides in Fort Myers, FL and aside from a demanding career enjoys attending large sporting events, concerts, participating in intramural sports, and relaxing on the beach. "I have truly been blessed throughout my life and career. I'm sure luck has played a role in my successes, but I believe luck is when preparation and hard work meets opportunity."
Blood attended Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management with a minor in Business Administration.
