Jamie Church was named Assistant Director of Athletics Communication on Monday, Sept. 9.
Church serves as the primary media contact for FGCU’s women’s basketball, women’s golf, softball, volleyball and sand volleyball teams. She also aids in the department’s graphic design output and assists in video production and social media efforts.
A native of Stanhope, N.J., Church spent three years with Fairleigh Dickinson University in New Jersey as a member of the Athletics Communication staff. After one year as a Graduate Assistant, Church was promoted to the Assistant Director of Athletic Communications, a post she held for two years prior to joining the FGCU staff.
During the 2012-13 academic year, Church served as the primary media contact for the Knights’ men’s basketball, cross country, women’s bowling, women’s soccer, softball, track and field and women’s volleyball programs. She has previous experience with women’s basketball, golf and fencing.
While at FDU, Church spearheaded the media campaign to publicize two-time women’s bowling national player of the year, Danielle McEwan. McEwan also earned three Northeast Conference Player of the Year awards in that time span and was the lone representative of the United States on the world stage.
In three years, Church’s efforts resulted in three individuals earning NEC Player of the Year honors, two athletes named NEC Rookie of the Year, a two-time National Coach of the Year and a dozen all-conference selections. Church also aided the women’s bowling program in three NCAA National Collegiate tournaments, including the 2012 NCAA National Championship final.
Additionally, Church was instrumental in the startup of FDU’s social media efforts and the Knights’ live video streaming initiative.
Church is a 2010 graduate of Colby-Sawyer College where she completed a bachelor’s degree in Sport Management with a minor in Communication Studies. She earned a Master’s of Sports Administration from Fairleigh Dickinson University in May 2013.
