Associate AD for Internal Affairs
William N. Blood (Billy Blood) was promoted to Associate Athletic Director of Internal Affairs in July 2012 and enters his tenth year with Florida Gulf Coast University. He was hired as the first facility manager for Alico Arena in December 2003, promoted to Assistant Director of Alico Arena and Special Events in November of 2007, and was promoted to Assistant Athletic Director of Facilities & Operations in 2009 before becoming the Chief Financial Officer in 2012. Blood's responsibilities include: oversight of the athletic business office and all financial operations, fiscal management and reporting, oversight of facilities & operations division, and representing Athletics on University committees such as the Planning and Budget Council, Budget Committee and Safety and Facilities Committee. He also serves as the sport administrator for women’s soccer and men’s golf.
After becoming the Alico Arena Manager at FGCU he took on scheduling of all athletic facilities, added three full-time positions, and doubled part-time event staff support. He has managed keynote University events such as FGCU Commencement, University Presidential Inauguration and Ten-Year Anniversary, University Lecture Series that included Maya Angelou, Mikhail Gorbachev, and Colin Powell; special events such as Vice President Dick Cheney and Vice President Joe Biden campaign rallies and athletic events such as the 2007 NCAA Division II Women's South Regional Basketball Tournament, Pre-season and Post-season WNIT, and A-Sun Conference Championships (volleyball, men’s and women’s soccer, cross country). In March 2013 he served as the Primary Administrator during the FGCU Men’s Basketball team’s historic run to the Sweet 16 in the NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament handling all of the travel arrangements and logistics for the team and official travel party.
Blood recognizes the importance of mentors in his life who have played an integral role throughout his career development. "I was blessed with a lot of great role models and positive influences growing up; from my parents and family, to coaches, teachers and supervisors. Just as those people did for me, I hope to serve as a positive influence and have an impact on people’s lives.” He has been a part of FGCU’s transition from Division-II to Division-I, seen the addition of volleyball, sand volleyball, swimming & diving and men’s and women’s soccer, as well as coordinated and managed capital improvement projects for Alico Arena, Swanson Stadium, Softball Stadium, Soccer Stadium, Tennis Complex, Outdoor Sports Complex and Buckingham Property totaling over $2.5M.
Blood attended Slippery Rock University in Pennsylvania where he graduated with a Bachelor of Science degree in Sport Management with a minor in Business Administration. Originally from Conneautville, PA, Blood currently resides in Fort Myers, FL (Dunk City) with his wife Valerie and rescued dog Mindy.
