In October of 2014, Jonathan DeMarie was named FGCU’s assistant athletic trainer. DeMarie oversees the baseball, men’s and women’s golf programs along with the day to day operation of the OSC training room.

Most recently, DeMarie spent the past seven years at Belmont, working primarily with the Bruins baseball team. DeMarie brings an array of collegiate experience to FGCU, with previous stints at Murray State University, the Nashville Outlaws and Fulton Railroaders – the latter two of which are college baseball summer league teams.

"We are very excited to have Jonathan join our athletic training staff here at FGCU,” said Mike Estes, Associate Athletic Director for Health Services. “He brings a wealth of knowledge and skills expertise specific to the baseball and golf programs, and will greatly aid in continuing to improve and enhance the overall experience of our student-athletes.”

As the athletic trainer for baseball at Belmont, DeMarie developed and adapted a structured pitching maintenance program that involved long-toss bullpen days, along with conditioning designed to strengthen the core, lower and upper body. He also developed a pre-screening tool for baseball players, along with providing athletic training services for camps in the fall, spring and summer from 2007-12.

“Jonathan continuously worked hard at improving his knowledge and skills of providing athletic training care for the baseball athlete” Paul Malloy, head athletic trainer at Belmont stated. “We recognize the position at Florida Gulf Coast is a very good progression for him and we are happy for him with this opportunity.”

While working with the Outlaws he provided athletic training services during practices, conditioning, training and home and road games. DeMarie was the first responder for all visiting teams. While working with the Outlaws’ pitching coach, DeMarie developed a well-structured daily pitching maintenance program that involved long toss and bullpen days, along with core conditioning and upper- and lower-body strengthening.

During his time with the Railroaders, DeMarie represented the Kit League team as its athletic trainer in the first-ever Kentucky-Illinois-Tennessee League vs. Central Illinois Collegiate League All-Star Game.

As a graduate assistant at Murray State he provided athletic services for women’s volleyball and baseball. DeMarie also provided athletic training services for summer baseball, basketball and volleyball camps.

DeMarie received his Bachelor’s Degree from Eastern Illinois University in 2005 along with receiving the Dr & Mrs. Richard H. Larson Athletic Training Scholarship Award. He went on to graduate with a Master’s Degree from Murray State in 2007. DeMarie has certifications in Corrective Exercise Specialist, Approved Clinical Instructor, CPR/AED-AHA Professional Rescuer and a NATABOC Certification. He is also a member of the National Athletic Trainers Association, the South East Athletic Trainers Association and the Florida Athletic Trainers Association.
