Eagles battery leads the way in 18-0 win
|
Cape Coral – The FGCU baseball team (11-6) defeated Point Park 18-0 Saturday morning at the Cape Coral Sports Complex.
Freshman hurler Chris Hassen was dominant as he pitched a complete game, only surrendering two hits, and striking out nine. Hassen improves to 4-1 on the season as he had excellent control, and pitched his best game of the season.
Junior catcher Billy Corrigan exploded for a 2-for-3 performance as he blasted a three-run homer in the seventh inning. Corrigan finished the day with 5 RBI’s.
Freshman Outfielder Travis Cunningham gave the Eagles a spark in the fifth as he knocked in the games first two runs with a double. Cunningham finished the game 2-for-3 with 4 RBI’s and 2 runs scored.
Freshman Joey Tolisano, who got his first start at third base this season, went 3-for-4 with 1 RBI and 2 runs scored.
Freshman Rene Ruiz, who has been the Eagles most consistent player defensively at short stop has come on lately offensively. Ruiz who is now hitting .333, went 3-for-4 with 4 runs scored and 2 RBI’s.
Junior David Cox hit his ninth double of the year as he went 1-for-3 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI. Cox is now hitting .422 on the season.
Kip Perry and Mike Howard also contributed on the day as Perry went 1-for-4 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored, while Howard went 1-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI.
Jason Cooper scored 3 runs in the Eagles win today.
The Eagles (11-6) will play Minnesota-Morris tomorrow at Terry park beginning 9 a.m.
