Eagles take two from Lock Haven

Fort Myers – The FGCU baseball team swept Lock Haven University today at Terry Park 11-4 and 6-4.

In the first game, the Eagles pounded out eighteen hits, and got a career best 14 strikeouts from freshman hurler Chris Hassen to win their fifteenth game of the season.

Hassen threw a complete game, giving up four hits and walking two. He improves to 5-1 on the season, which leads the Eagles in wins.

Offensively, lead off hitter Kip Perry went 3-for-4 with 5 RBI’s and 2 runs scored to lead the Eagles. Perry crushed his first career home run as well.

First basemen Chris Brown, who is now hitting .410 on the season, went 3-for-4 with 2 RBI’s and a run scored.

Freshman Joey Tolisano went 3-for-4 with 2 runs scored and a RBI. Tolisano earned his fifth double of the season as well.

Right fielder David Alexander had a nice game going 3-for-4 with 3 runs scored and a RBI.

Freshman shortstop Rene Ruiz also contributed effectively going 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.

The second game proved to be more competitive as the Eagles jumped out to a 5-1 lead through three innings only to have Lock Haven come back in the top of the fourth scoring two runs to narrow the lead to 5-3. The Eagles got an insurance run in the bottom of the fifth to seal the win.

Freshman Justin Miller picked up his third win of the season (3-0) as he went four and a third innings giving up two hits, three earned runs, and striking out a batter.

Junior Eric Jordan was solid in relief as he pitched the final two and two-thirds innings, picking up his first career save. Jordan gave up one hit, one earned run, and struck out two.

Offensively, Freshman Jason Cooper went a perfect 3-for-3 to lead the Eagles. The designated hitter also scored a run in the win.

Freshman third basemen, Chris Garcia who made his fifth start of the season, raised his batting average to .470 with a 2-for-3 performance. Garcia knocked in a pair of runs as well.

Joey Tolisano turned in a solid game as he went 1-for-4 with a run scored and a pair of RBI’s.

Junior David Cox scored 3 runs as he went 1-for-3 including a double. Cox also scored a run in the win.

Jason Cooper, Rene Ruiz, and Mike Howard also earned doubles in the win.

Howard went 1-for-3 with a RBI.

The Eagles improve to 16-7 on the season and will battle Knox College Sunday at 5 p.m. at Terry Park.
