Lions knock of Eagles 4-3
Fort Myers – The FGCU baseball team (29-10-2) lost a close fought battle to Florida Memorial College (9-26) 4-3.
The Eagles starting pitcher Chris Hassen gave up two runs in the top of the first, one in the third, and another in the fifth, but could not get much run support as the Eagles only earned five hits on the day.
Hassen picked up just his second loss of the season, and is now 9-2. Hassen gave up five hits, two earned runs, and struck out nine.
Junior Eric Jordan came in and shut down the Lions in the seventh, as he finished the game, surrendering two hits, while striking out one.
Offensively the Eagles struggled all day, and could not seem to get the big hit. FGCU left ten runners on base.
Freshman Kip Perry hit his second home run of the season, driving in three runs as he went 2-for-5.
Junior slugger Chris Brown went 2-for-3 and raised his average to .450 on the season.
The Eagles had their chance in the bottom of the eighth as they loaded the bases with two outs, but could not convert as Billy Corrigan hit a ground ball to the shortstop who threw David Alexander out at second.
In the bottom of the ninth, Joey Tolisano walked and Chris Brown singled with two outs, but Junior David Cox could not bring them home as he flied out to center to end the ball game with the score 4-3.
The Eagled drop to 29-10-2, and will play FMC twice tomorrow.
