Phillips Shuts Down Concordia

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Senior right-hander Billy Phillips struck out a season-high 11 batters in five innings Saturday afternoon to lead Florida Gulf Coast University to a school-record eighth straight win with a 7-3 victory over Concordia University at the FGCU Baseball Complex. Phillips (New Port Richey, FL), making allowed just three hits, one walk and one run to improve his record to 3-1 with a 1.84 ERA. FGCU is now 12-3. FGCU jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first before scoring three runs in the second and three runs in the third. Junior shortstop Jason Louwsma (Sanford, FL) had three of the Eagles nine hits in the game, including a three-run double in the third. Louwsma finished with two runs scored and four RBI.Junior Mike Matthews (Venice, FL) went 2-for-2 with an RBI, reaching base four times. Junior second baseman Pat Stubbe (Naples, FL) and senior center fielder David Cox (Sarasota, FL) each scored twice. The Eagles will host #24 Regis University of Colorado tonight at 7 p.m. at the FGCU Baseball Complex.
