FORT MYERS, Fla. – Senior Jason Louwsma had five hits to lead No. 23 Florida Gulf Coast University to a 14-4 win over Post University (Conn.) in NCAA Division II baseball action at Swanson Stadium Wednesday night. The senior All-American had three doubles, a single and his fourth home run of the season to go with five RBI to lead the Eagles to their fourth straight win and seventh win in the eight games. Louwsma (Sanford, Fla.) became just the second-ever FGCU player to have five hits in a game, equaling the feat accomplished in 2003 by Jason Cooper. He also extended his hitting streak to 11 games and now has a basehit in 21 of 23 games this year. FGCU continued its recent offensive explosion, pounding out 15 hits against a pair of Post pitchers. The Eagles have had 10 or more hits in 10 of their last 12 games. Junior DH Robby Rotunno (Sanford, Fla.), sophomore outfielder Shawn Griffin (Hollywood, Fla.), junior outfielder Geoff Rottmayer (Clearwater, Fla.) and senior infielder Chris Perry (Largo, Fla.) registered two hits each for FGCU. Rotunno also drove in three runs. The Eagles jumped on Post early, as the first eight hitters in the lineup scored in the first inning. Louwsma and Rotunno had two RBI each in the inning. FGCU added two runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth innings. Senior left-hander Ryan Williams (Estero, Fla.) pitched the first five innings, scattering three hits while striking out seven. With the win, Williams moved into fourth on the Eagles all-time win list with nine career victories. FGCU will host Missouri-St. Louis on Thursday at 7 p.m. at Swanson Stadium.
