Fischer (Fort Lauderdale, Fla.) pitched the final three innings, striking out six to record his first career save. In the nightcap, the Eagles batted around in both the first and second innings to pull away for the 20-1 win. Griffin became the first FGCU player to hit two homers in back-to-back games with a two-run homer in the fourth and a solo shot in the seventh for his fifth round-tripper of the season. Griffin finished 3-for-5 with four RBI. Louwsma went 2-for-2 with five RBI, including a grand slam home run in the fourth, his fifth homerun of the year. Junior Geoff Rottmayer (Clearwater, Fla.) went 3-for-4 and belted a three-run homerun, his team-leading sixth of the year, as part of a 10-run first inning. Manson and junior Derek Mollica (Boca Raton, Fla.) had two hits each as 10 Eagles recorded a base hit. Senior Chris Perry (Largo, Fla.) tied Louwsma’s new mark by getting hit by a pitch three times in the game. Four Eagles pitchers combined for 14 strikeouts on the mound as they held the Panthers to just three hits. Junior right-hander Jason Kiley (Palm Harbor, Fla.) recorded four strikeouts in two innings to improve to 5-1. Sophomore right-hander JJ Crumbley (Tampa, Fla.) also had four strikeouts in two innings of relief while freshman lefty Richard Bleier (Plantation, Fla.) added three strikeouts in his two hitless innings of work. Outfielder Michael Yates (West Palm Beach, Fla.) came on to strike out the side in the seventh in his first collegiate pitching appearance. FGCU (24-5), winners of 10 straight, continues its road trip with a doubleheader Tuesday afternoon at Morehouse College.
