FGCU Baseball Holds National Rankings

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team is ranked in the top-30 in both major Division II national polls this week. FGCU (28-10, 20-8 South Region) is ranked No. 17 by the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association and No. 26 in the American Baseball Coaches Association Poll, as released by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. FGCU fell five spots in the NCBWA poll but is ranked No. 5 in the South Region. Tampa and Catawba, ranked No. 1 and No. 3 nationally, hold the top two regional spots by the NCBWA. Miles College, ranked No. 16 overall, is third in the region while unranked Saint Leo is fourth in the South Region. FGCU, which had been as high as No. 9 in the coaches’ poll, is one of five teams from the South Region in the national top-30. Tampa (No. 1), Catawba (No. 8), Florida Southern (No. 20), Tusculum (No. 21) join the Eagles as South Region teams in the ABCA poll. The Eagles lost their only game last week, dropping a 5-4 decision at Lynn in 10 innings. This week FGCU will play four regional tilts, including singles games on Tuesday at Saint Leo and Wednesday at Palm Beach Atlantic before heading to Augusta, Georgia for a doubleheader Saturday at Paine College.
