Eagles Remain Among Nation's Elite
FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team remains ranked in the top-25 in the National College Baseball Writers Association Poll but drops to No. 28 in the American Baseball Coaches Association Poll, which is released by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
FGCU (34-11, 26-9 South Region) moves up to a tie at No. 14 with Mesa State (37-15) in the NCBWA Poll.
The Eagles stay at the third spot in the South Region rankings again this week. FGCU still trails Tampa and Catawba. Florida Southern and Tusculum hold the fourth and fifth seed respectively in the South Region. If the NCAA Regionals started today, FGCU would play No. 4 Florida Southern. The Eagles took two out of three from Florida Southern when they traveled to Fort Myers back in March of this year.
The Eagles went 4-3 since the last rankings were published. FGCU lost one game to Stillman College and two out of three at Florida Tech.
Rollins College travels to Fort Myers Friday for a key South Region match up at Swanson Stadium. Rollins failed to make the top ten in this week’s South Region rankings. The teams will play one game Friday followed by a doubleheader Saturday. This will be the first time that the two teams have met this season. This series will mark the end of the regular season for the Eagles as they will wait for the final South Region rankings to determine their NCAA Regionals opponent.
