Louwsma and Coleman Recieve All-Region Honors

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Florida Gulf Coast University’s Jason Louwsma and Casey Coleman have been named to the 2006 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Division II All-South Region Baseball Team. Both players were named to the All-South Region Second Team as voted on by head coaches in the region. Louwsma was honored as a third baseman while Coleman was selected for his accolades as a pitcher. Louwsma was also named to the National Collegiate Baseball Writer's All-Region squad. He tied DeShaun Brooks of Benedict College for the third base position. A senior from Sanford, Fla., Louwsma started all 58 games for the Eagles, who finished the season with a 41-17 record. He led the team in hits (86), doubles (28), and RBI (74). His RBI and doubles numbers set single season records at FGCU. Louwsma was second on the team in hitting (.361), slugging percentage (.622), and homeruns (10). He also only struck out 13 times in a team high 238 at-bats. In just two years at FGCU, Louwsma set career records for most doubles (47), and homeruns (23). He started every game for the Eagles in his two years and finished with a lifetime batting average of .373. Coleman, a freshman from Cape Coral, Fla., proved to be a great addition to the Eagles both at second base and on the pitcher’s mound. Coleman started 48 games for FGCU this season and hit .346, good for fifth on the team. Coleman drove in 32 runs on 56 hits with one homer on the year. He had a .444 slugging percentage and a .950 fielding percentage. Coleman made 13 appearances on the mound for the Eagles. He started seven games and finished with a 3-1 overall record. With an era of 2.56, Coleman led the team with a school-record six saves while his opponents only hit .241 off of him. Both Louwsma and Coleman played key roles while leading the Eagles to the NCAA Division II Regional Tournament in just the second year of post-season eligibility for FGCU.
