FGCU Baseball Cruises Past Gannon

Fort Myers, Fla.-The 16th ranked Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team put Gannon away early to win 29-3. Derek Shaw (New Port Richey, Fla.) received his first start and win for the Eagles, throwing 4 innings, no runs allowed, with 5 strikeouts. FGCU scored in 7 out of the 8 innings they came to the plate. Three Eagle players had a multiple hit game, Chris Alessandria (Jacksonville, Fla.) went 3-for-7, with five runs scored, and 2 RBI’S. Vinnie Scarduzio (Juipitor, Fla.) went 4-for-5, with four runs scored, and 5 RBI’s. Victor Rodriguez (Cape Coral, Fla.) went 2-for-3, scored 2 runs, with 2RBI’s. Victor Rodriguez, and Josh Upchurch (Cape Coral, Fla.)recorded their first homerun of the season. The Eagles threw five pitchers at the Golden Knights, only allowing 3 runs on 6 hits. Derek Shaw moved to 1-0. Tim Bromley (Jacksonville,Fla.) threw 3 innings with 3 runs allowed, with 4 strikouts. Danny Miller (Pinellas Park, Fla.) saw his third appearance, allowing one hit in one inning. Pete Woodworth (St.Petersburg, Fla.) finished up for the Eagles, throwing one hitless inning. The Eagles will hit the road this weekend March 3-4, to face Rollins in a three game series.
