FORT MYERS, Fla., - The #25 ranked FGCU baseball team improved to 17-6 with a 16-0 win over Stillman. Richard Bleier (Davie, Fla.) picked up his second win of the year after tossing 2.0 scoreless innings in relief.
The Eagles jumped out to an early 3-0 lead behind a three run homer in the first by Vinnie Scarduzio (Jupiter, Fla.), his fourth of the year. In the second, FGCU picked up three more runs, as the first four batters all reached safely on hits. Graig Smith (Venice, Fla.) and Chris Alessandria (Jacksonville, Fla.) each had doubled in the inning. The Eagles added six in the bottom of the seventh, Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) drilled a three run homer in the inning. The Eagles tacked on four more in the eighth with a two run homer shot by Derek Mollica (Boca Raton, Fla.).
The Eagles scored 16 runs on 19 hits in the game. Six Eagles had multiple hit games including Scarduzio and Ozzie Borrell who had four apiece. The pair also drove in three runs apiece for the Eagles. Peacock and Mollica were each 2-for-3 in the game with homeruns for FGCU.
The Eagles will be back in action again on Thursday when they host Dayton at 7:30 pm in the Beef O’Brady’s St. Patricks Week Baseball Classic.
