#18 Baseball Downs St. Leo 12-6

FORT MYERS, Fla., - The #18 FGCU baseball team improved to 22-9 with a 12-6 win over South Region rival St. Leo. The Lions got on the board first in the second inning after leadoff batter Yunior Tabares was hit and Matt Prowant followed with a single. Tabares scored after a pair of groundouts to score the games first run. Ozzie Borrell (Hialeah, Fla.) led off the second for FGCU with a bunt down the third base line and advanced on an error before coming home off of a Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) single up the middle. The Eagles added single runs in the fourth, fifth and sixth inning to take a 4-2 lead. St. Leo added a run in the top of the seventh inning, cutting the lead to 4-3. FGCU exploded for eight runs in the bottom of the innings. The first nine Eagles that went to the plate reached safely. All told, the Eagles scored eight runs on eight hits with an error to break open a close game. St. Leo tacked on three more runs later in the contest. Ozzie Borrell went 3-for-4 with four RBI and a pair of runs scored for the Eagles. Paul Fibbe also collected three hits. Every starter recorded at least one hit in the contest. Jason Kiley picked up his third win of the year, working 6.0 innings while allowing a pair of runs on five hits. The #18 Eagles will be back in action again on Friday night when they host Barry at 7:00 pm at Swanson Stadium.
