Eagles Win Seventh Straight

FORT MYERS, Fla., - The #30 FGCU baseball team improves their win streak to seven after they took both ends of a doubleheader with Palm Beach Atlantic on Saturday at Swanson Stadium. The Eagles took game one 5-2 and game two 13-4 to improve to 30-12 while PBA falls to 13-29. The Eagles were trailing by two until they cut the lead in half in the bottom of the third; Freshman Chris Alessandria (Jacksonville, Fla.) lead off the inning with a walk, and advanced to second on a wild pitch. Senior Derek Mollica (Boca Raton, Fla.) singled up the middle with two outs to score Alessandria. The Eagles tied the game at two in the bottom of the sixth, Junior Vinnie Scarduzio (Jupiter, Fla.) walked, Junior Graig Smith (Venice, Fla.) got hit by a pitch (second of the game), and Junior Victor Rodriguez (Cape Coral, Fla.) singled through the right side to score Scarduzio. The Eagles scored a pair of runs in the eighth, and tacked on one more in the ninth to take game one 5-2. Sophomore Casey Coleman (Cape Coral, Fla.) threw seven innings, allowing two runs on seven hits to improve to 3-2 on the season. Alessandria was 1-for-2 with one run scored in the game. Scarduzio was 1-for-1 with one run scored in the game. Upchurch, Rassel, Peacock, and Rodriguez all had RBI’s. In game two, the Eagles scored in all but one inning. The Sailfish scored one in the first, but the Eagles quickly answered in the bottom of the first with a pair of runs. The Eagles scored two more in the third, and six more in the fourth. In the fifth, Vinnie Scarduzio (Jupiter, Fla.) knocked his fifth homerun of the season, to bring in Graig Smith (Venice, Fla.). The Eagles put up one more in the sixth to take game two 13-4. Junior Luis Pardo (Miami, Fla.) threw five innings, allowing eight hits with five strikeouts to improve his record to 5-2. Upchurch was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI. Mollica was 1-for-3 with two runs scored and one RBI. Borrell was 3-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI. Smith was 1-for-2 with two runs scored and one RBI. Scarduzio was 1-for-2 with three runs scored and two RBI’s. Fibbe was 2-for-3 with one run scored and two RBI’s. Coleman was 2-for-4 with two RBI’s. The Eagles look to continue their win streak as they head to Saint Leo to face the Saints on Tuesday at 6:00pm.
