FORT MYERS, Fla., - The FGCU baseball team saw a four-game winning streak snapped with a 5-2 loss to Bowling Green on Thursday night.  The Eagles fall to 8-2 while Bowling Green moves to 3-6 with their second win of the day.

The Eagles got on the board in the second as Tim Roberson (West Palm Beach, Fla.) doubled to bring home DJ Bissell who reached on a four pitch walk.  Mikel Alvarez (West Palm Beach, Fla.) brought home Roberson with a single to put FGCU up 2-0 heading into the third.

With two outs in the third, Bowling Green’s Andrew Foster reached on an error and a Frank Berry single put a pair on for Derek Spencer.  Spencer sent the second pitch he saw over the left field fence to put the Falcons up 3-2.

Bowling Green added a pair of runs in the ninth to increase their lead to 5-2, and that would prove to be the final score.

Bowling Green’s Nick Cantrell picked up the win in relief, going 4.2 innings while striking out six batters while giving up just one walk.  Patrick Nathanson (Maitland, Fla.) was saddled with the loss, going 7.0 innings while striking out five.  He allowed six hits while giving up one walk and gave up three runs, all unearned.

Mikel Alvarez went 2-4 for FGCU.  Four Falcons picked up a pair of hits including Spencer who went 2-3 with a three-run homer.

FGCU kicks off a three-game conference series against Gardner-Webb tomorrow at 7:00 pm.  Saturday’s doubleheader, which was originally scheduled for 1:00 pm, has been moved to 4:00 pm.
