Baseball Rallies for 13-6 Win at Bethune-Cookman

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla., - The Eagles rallied from an early 4-0 deficit to knock off Bethune Cookman 13-6. The Eagles scored 11 runs in the seventh and eighth innings to pull away from the Wildcats and improve to 15-5 while BCU falls to 11-7.

In the bottom of the third inning, the Wildcats put up four runs to take a 4-0 lead. BCU starter Felix Machado was dominant early, retiring the first 12 batters. Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) broke up the no-hitter and Ozzie Borrell (Hialeah, Fla.) put the Eagles on the board with his fifth homer of the season to cut the score to 4-2. The Wildcats increased the lead to 5-2 in the sixth.

The Eagles then scored 11 runs over the next two innings. A grand-slam by Vinnie Scarduzio (Jupiter, Fla.) was the big blow in the seventh inning. Casey Coleman (Cape Coral, Fla.) followed with a solo shot to give the Eagles a comfortable lead.

Shane Effertz picked up the win, his first of the year. Pete Woodworth tossed the final 2.1 innings to record his first save of the season. Coleman was a double shy of the cycle, going 3-5 with three RBI. Borrell was 2-3 with three runs scored and four RBI. Scarduzio added four RBI off the grand-slam that broke the game open.

Chris Chapman picked up the loss for the Wildcats in his first appearance of the season, allowing five runs in 1.2 innings.

The Eagles will be back in action again this weekend when they host Mercer for a three-game A-Sun series at Swanson Stadium beginning at 1:00 pm on Saturday.
