Basebal Falls in 10th Inning

NASHVILLE, Tenn., - The FGCU baseball team dropped a heartbreaker to Lipscomb in game one of a three-game series with first place on the line. Lipscomb singled in the 10th to win 7-6. The Eagles fall to 25-11 overall and 15-4 while Lipscomb improves to 19-14 and 13-6 in the A-Sun.

Lipscomb got on the board in the bottom of the second. The Bisons loaded the bases with no outs before starter Richard Bleier (Davie, Fla.) induced a double play and got out of the inning with just one run scored. The Eagles responded by manufacturing single runs in the third, fourth and fifth innings. Tim Roberson (West Palm Beach, Fla.) led off the third with a single and scored on a single by Mikel Alvarez (West Palm Beach, Fla.) singled to score Roberson. Alvarez extended his hitting streak to 22 games with the single.

The Eagles added a pair of runs in the seventh inning as Josh Upchurch (Cape Coral, Fla.) led off with a bunt single. Alvarez added a single and a sacrifice bunt gave FGCU runners on second and third with one out. Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) singled to drive in a run in the inning.

The Bisons would score three in the eighth inning and even the score with a pair of runs in the ninth to send the game to extra innings. In the bottom of the 10th inning the Bisons loaded the bases and singled in the winning run to complete the dramatic comeback.

Roberson was 3-5 in the game while Upchurch was 2-3 and Alvarez 2-5.

The Eagles and Bisons conclude the series tomorrow with a doubleheader beginning at 1:00 pm.
