Baseball's A-Sun Season-Opener Altered Due to Rain
Friday, March 12, 2010

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Heavy rain washed away the FGCU baseball's team's Atlantic Sun Conference opener on Friday night at USC Upstate, with the score tied at one with two outs in the top of the second inning. Upstate and FGCU will continue the halted game on Saturday at 11 a.m. and play a full nine-inning game before wrapping up the series on Sunday at 11 a.m.

The two teams each dented the scoreboard in the early innings, with Upstate scoring first, as Gaither Bumgardner singled with one out and Jimmy Tanner hit a grounder up the middle that drilled the Mikel Alvarez (West Palm Beach, Fla.) in the ankle before rolling into center field. Bumgardner never stopped, scoring on the play. In the second inning, freshman Mike Reeves (Peterborough, Ontario) knocked a homer off the scoreboard in left-center to tie the game.
