ETSU Defeats FGCU in Series Finale
JOHNSON CITY, Tenn. – ETSU broke open a one-run game with four runs in the fourth inning en route to earning an 11-5 victory over the FGCU baseball team in the third and deciding game Sunday afternoon at Cardinal Park.
The loss drops FGCU’s record to 14-15 overall and 8-7 in the A-Sun. The Buccaneers now stand at 16-8 and 8-5 in the conference.
The first six batters in the FGCU lineup came away with a hit, as both teams finished the day with 11. Sophomore Mike Reeves (Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter’s Secondary) an eight-hit weekend by going 3-for-5 with an RBI. Senior Tim Roberson (West Palm Beach, Fla./Palm Beach Central HS) and junior Javi Sujo (Miami, Fla./Miami Sunset HS/Middle Georgia College) each went 2-for-4. Sujo drove in a pair of runs, while Roberson brought in one.
Sophomore Kevin Bryant (Homestead, Fla./South Dade HS) made his fourth start of the season on the mound for the Eagles, going 3.1 innings in the loss. All four pitchers who entered the game for FGCU gave up two runs or more.
Senior Ben Booker improved to 3-0 by going 5.1 innings for ETSU and leaving with a 7-3 lead. Booker scattered five hits over his 92 pitches.
Trailing 3-0 through two innings, the Eagles got back into the game in the top of third with two runs. Both runs came with two outs, as senior Mikel Alvarez (West Palm Beach, Fla./Palm Beach Central HS) started things with a walk. Freshman Brandon Bednar (Stuart, Fla./South Fork HS) then drilled an RBI triple to score Alvarez and then crossed the plate himself on a single by Roberson to make it 3-2.
ETSU took back the momentum with four runs in the bottom of the fourth to expand its lead to 7-2.
FGCU refused to go away, though, producing three runs over the sixth and seventh innings to cut the deficit to 7-5. Sujo supplied an RBI single in the sixth, but the Eagles left the bases loaded. FGCU bounced back with two more runs in the seventh on two out singles by Reeves and Sujo.

FGCU will be back in action on Tuesday when it travels to Boca Raton to take on FAU. First pitch is slated for 6:30 p.m.
