SPARTANBURG, S.C. – The opening contest in the three-game Atlantic Sun weekend series between the FGCU baseball team and USC Upstate has been delayed due to inclement weather. The Eagles currently trail the Spartans, 4-0, and the contest is set to resume with one out in the bottom of seventh inning on Saturday at 2 p.m.

Entering the contest with a scoreless innings streak of 19.2 and two consecutive complete-game shutouts, sophomore right-hander Ricky Knapp (Port Charlotte, Fla./Port Charlotte HS) added two more innings (21.2) to his total before surrendering an unearned run with no outs in the bottom of the third.

The Spartans pushed their lead to four runs in the bottom of the seventh after back-to-back singles and a triple to right center made it a 3-0 game. A sacrifice fly in the next at-bat extended the lead to 4-0, and the Spartans currently hold a runner on first base with one out in the inning.

Through 6.1 innings, Knapp allowed four runs (three earned) on eight hits and one walk while recording a pair of strikeouts.

Sophomore Sean Dwyer (Tavares, Fla./Tavares HS) is in the midst of 2-for-3 game, while freshman Brady Anderson (Arcadia, Fla./DeSoto County HS) is 2-for-2 in his chances at the plate. Freshman Michael Suchy (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) has accounted for the Eagles other hit in the contest, going 1-for-2.

David Roseboom tossed seven scoreless innings for the Spartans, allowing five hits and one walk to go with six strikeouts.

The contest is set to resume in the seventh inning on Saturday afternoon at 2 p.m., with game two of the series to follow 30 minutes after the conclusion of game one.
