Hot Bat Helps Dwyer Claim First Career A-Sun Player of the Week Honor

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Recording a .444 batting average (8-18) with eight RBI during a 3-2 week for FGCU that included victories over No. 28 FAU and at No. 6 Miami, sophomore Sean Dwyer (Tavares, Fla./Tavares HS) was named the Atlantic Sun Baseball Player of the Week, announced by the league office on Monday.

Picking up his first career A-Sun Player of the Week honor, Dwyer guided the Green and Blue to a trio of victories last week, including a pair over nationally-ranked foes, collecting 14 total bases, a .778 slugging percentage and a .522 on-base percentage. In the contest with FAU, Dwyer went 2-for-4 with an RBI and followed with a 1-for-3 outing against the Hurricanes that included the go-head two-run double.

The Tavares, Fla. product provided the offensive spark in the Eagles’ 7-3 series-opening win at Jacksonville on Friday, going 2-for-4 with three RBI on a three-run home run while adding a walk. Continuing a hot series at the dish, Dwyer went 2-for-4 in game two with the Dolphins and wrapped up the weekend set with a 1-for-3 afternoon which included two RBI and a walk. In all, Dwyer produced a hit in all five games and was 8-for-18.

For the season, the second-year first baseman sports a .263 batting average with a .363 on-base percentage. Sitting second on the team with three home runs, Dwyer is also second on the squad with 24 RBI and 53 total bases, in addition to his 14 runs scored.
