Knapp, Beisner Lead @FGCU_Baseball to Sweep of A-Sun Weekly Awards

FORT MYERS, Fla. – After sweeping No. 13 Florida in a three-game set last weekend in Gainesville, Fla., the No. 23 FGCU baseball team also swept the Atlantic Sun Conference weekly awards, as junior right-hander Ricky Knapp (Port Charlotte, Fla./Port Charlotte HS) earned Pitcher of the Week honors and redshirt senior Brooks Beisner (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS/Auburn) garnered the Player of the Week selection.

Earning his fifth career complete game, Knapp improved to 2-0 on the year after allowing just two runs on six hits while striking out four hitters in a 92-pitch performance last Friday against the Gators. In his two starts this season, the Port Charlotte, Fla. product holds a 1.20 ERA with nine strikeouts and one walk, while holding opposing hitters to a .163 average in 15 innings of work. It marks the third time Knapp has been awarded Pitcher of the Week honors in his career.

Earning his first career Player of the Week selection, Beisner has led the offensive charge this season, hitting .520 with a 1.120 slugging percentage, adding 11 RBI, six runs scored, and four home runs with a .571 on-base percentage. In the three games against the Gators, the Punta Gorda, Fla. product continued to swing a hot bat, hitting .500 (6-for-12) with a 1.167 slugging percentage, adding a pair of doubles and home runs, adding six RBI and three runs scored. Additionally, Beisner leads the A-Sun with 13 hits, while ranking among the league leaders in RBI (T-3rd, 11), home runs (2nd, 4) and total bases (2nd, 28).

Winners of four straight, the Eagles’ improved to 5-1 on the young season after the trio of victories in Gainesville. The Sunday triumph clinched the first three-game sweep of the Gators on their home turf since Miami (Feb. 28-Mar. 1) did so during the 2009 campaign.

The Eagles now prepare for a mid-week contest at FAU on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. in Boca Raton, Fla.
