FORT MYERS, Fla. – In its final road trip of the season, the FGCU baseball team will begin the five-game stretch on Wednesday afternoon when it heads to Tallahassee, Fla. to face Florida A&M in a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 1 p.m. It will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools.

Following an Atlantic Sun Conference series sweep of Jacksonville last weekend at Swanson Stadium, the Eagles raised their overall record to 30-16 (14-7 A-Sun), extending their current win streak to eight games and securing a spot in the A-Sun Championship. FGCU’s stretch of victories matches the longest streak by an A-Sun team this season.

In the series against the Dolphins, the Eagles hit a combined .366 with a .516 slugging and .465 on-base percentage, scoring 25 runs and collecting 23 RBI. Junior Brandon Bednar (Stuart, Fla./South Fork HS) led the offense on the weekend, hitting .545 (6-for-11) with a .545 slugging percentage and .643 on-base percentage with four runs scored. Collecting 12 total bases over the three games, sophomore Michael Suchy (Bradenton, Fla./Southeast HS) held a .462 average (6-for-13) while leading the team with two home runs, five RBI and five runs scored. Suchy’s effort in the trio of A-Sun games combined with a .444 average (4-for-9) in the pair of games last Wednesday with FIU, which included a home run, a pair of RBI and three runs scored, earned the second-year player his first career A-Sun Player of the Week honor.

Bednar has also paced the Eagles throughout the year, hitting .359 with a .475 slugging and .421 on-base percentage, all of which lead the team. The Stuart, Fla. native has team-highs of 45 runs scored, 39 RBI, 94 total bases on 18 extra-base hits, while swiping a team-best seven bases in nine attempts.

Holding a .331 batting average, senior catcher Mike Reeves (Peterborough, Ontario/St. Peter’s Secondary) is second on the team with 36 runs scored and has driven in 19 RBI. Reaching base at a .417 clip, Reeves currently leads the team and sits third in the nation with 19 sacrifice hits.

Redshirt senior Brooks Beisner (Punta Gorda, Fla./Charlotte HS/Auburn) and Suchy are hitting .313 and .300, respectively. Beisner has scored 27 times and brought in 36 RBI while Suchy has 26 runs scored and 34 RBI on the year.

The two teams have yet to exchange starting pitchers for the pair of games.

The Rattlers enter the midweek pair with a 7-42 overall record and are 6-18 in MEAC contests. Marlon Gibbs is hitting .350 this season with 18 runs scored and 13 RBI. Bennie Robinson has driven in a team-best 20 RBI and scored 16 times while recording a .335 average and 10 stolen bases this season.

FAMU most recently took two of the three games against MEAC foe North Carolina A&T (W 3-1, W 4-3, L 0-9) last weekend, before dropping a Monday evening meeting at Florida, 22-1.
