Fort Myers – The University of North Florida entered today’s game as the #4 rated team in the country (NCAA II), and showed why as they defeated FGCU 14-2 at Hammond Stadium.
FGCU freshman Paul Buhrow made his first career start today, and got off to a rough start walking 4 Ospreys in the first inning, and giving up three earned runs.
Osprey catcher Jesse Collins drove in the games first two runs for the Ospreys on a double in the top of the first. The Ospreys would get another run after freshman reliever Tony Korson walked a runner in.
FGCU would counter however in the bottom half of the first as Mike Howard would lead off with a walk. Two batters later David Cox singled to right field. Freshman catcher Joey Tolisano then singled to right scoring Howard to get the Eagles on the board.
First basemen Chris Brown would then single to center field to cut the Osprey lead to 3-2.
This is all the runs the Eagles would get however, as the Ospreys would score 12 unanswered runs led by Junior Outfielder Jeff Millsaps who went a perfect 5-for-5 from the plate, scoring 4 runs, and driving in 5.
Ospreys starting pitcher Jason Dixon would settle down, and pitch 6 solid innings, striking out 7 and only giving up one walk.
The Eagles standout on offense today was left fielder David Cox who is now hitting .457 (7-15). Cox went 3-for-5 today, scoring a run.
Junior out fielder Mike Howard, and catcher Joey Tolisano each had a pair of hits in the defeat as Howard scored the other Eagles run.
