Lantanta, FL – The FGCU baseball team defeated Palm Beach Atlantic today 9-4 to earn their first road win in school history. PBA was previously undefeated at 6-0.

Junior hurler Eric Jordan got the Eagles off to a good start as he had a no-hitter going through 4 complete innings.

The Eagles offense got going early as Joey Tolisano and David Cox got back-to-back singles, which loaded the bases for Chris Brown. Brown was hit by a pitch, and David Alexander laid down a nice bunt to score two runs in the top of the first.

The Eagles jumped out to a 7-0 lead after four innings led by a David Alexander solo home run to deep left field.

Alexander, in his next at bat would crush another fastball to deep left center field to earn back-to-back knocks, and to help give his team a 8-3 lead.

Freshman Chris Hassen would come in to relieve Jordan in the fifth inning as he struck out one, and surrendered only two hits.

Junior slugger, David Cox smashed a solo shot in the top half of the eighth to give the Eagles a commanding 9-4 lead. Cox went 2-for-5, scoring a run, and knocking one in.

David Alexander went 3-for-4 with 2 homers, three runs scored and two RBI’s. Alexander also laid down two nice bunts, one that was perfectly laid down the third base line for a hit.

Freshman flamethrower Chris Cahill came on in the eighth to relieve Hassen, and Cahill dominated striking out two while giving up a walk.

Freshman ace Jason Short was used a little differently tonight as he would close the game out in the ninth with a strikeout. Short has yet to give up a run all season.

Jason Cooper and Keith Sommer each had 2 hits in the Eagles win as they improve to 3-1 on the season.

The Eagles will face Northwood University in a three game series beginning Friday night at Terry Park. The first pitch will be 7:00 p.m.
