Fort Myers – The FGCU baseball team split a pair of games with Northwood University today to take two games of the three-game series.
In the first game of the day Northwood got the best of the Eagles as Simon Echenagucia pitched a complete game shutout.
The Eagles could not seem to get the bats going as only three players got in the hit column (Mike Howard, Jason Cooper, Chris Garcia).
FGCU starting pitcher Tony Korson, who started his first game in his college career went 6 innings, surrendering 4 earned runs, and giving up 11 hits.
Freshman Justin Miller made his first appearance of the season as he pitched 1 inning, surrendering only 1 hit.
Northwood was led by Justin Griffin who went 3-for-4 with 3 RBI’s. The Seahawks got 4 runs in the top of the sixth to propel them to a 4-0 victory.
In the second game, FGCU woke their bats up and went to work as they pounded out 11 hits, scoring 11 runs.
Mike Howard and Joey Tolisano hit their first home runs of the season, which were both mammoth shots. Howard went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 1 RBI. Tolisano went 2-for-3 with 4 RBI’s.
Freshman Kip Perry had another solid performance going 2-for-3 with 4 runs scored.
Junior Outfielder David Cox went 2-for-3 with 1 run scored and 1 RBI.
Chris Hassen picked up his second win of the season as he went 6 innings, giving up 8 hits, and 6 earned runs while striking out 1.
Eric Jordan worked 1 inning of relief as he struck out 2 out of 3 batters he faced.
The Eagles improve to 5-2 with the win and will travel to FIT on Wednesday as they look for their 6th victory of the season.
