Fort Myers – The FGCU baseball team improved to 9-6 on the season as they defeated Salem International Monday evening at Terry Park.
Despite giving up 3 runs and 4 hits in the top of the first inning, Freshman Tony Korson settled down to pitch a career best 7-strikeout complete game.
The Eagles fell behind 3-0 after the top of the first, but answered with 4 runs in the bottom half of the first to take the lead and never looked back.
The Eagles scored 2 runs in the fourth, and added another in the fifth to earn their ninth win of the season.
Offensively, the Eagles were led by Junior slugger David Cox, Freshman catcher Joey Tolisano, Designated Hitter Jason Cooper, and Freshman outfielder Travis Cunningham who all had 2-hit games for the Eagles.
Cooper drove in two runs, while Tolisano scored 2 runs. Cunningham scored a run and had an RBI, while Cox scored a run as well.
First basemen Chris Brown earned a 1-for-4 performance as he scored a run, and knocked a run in.
The Eagles will take on South Dakota Wednesday at Terry Park in their next contest.
