An Osprey and an Eagle to Fly with ’03 Generals
The Petersburg Generals today announced the signing of two Florida-located student athletes to continue the 2003 personnel charge. Jake Dixon and Joey Tolisano have both signed to play summer collegiate Coastal Plain League baseball with the Generals.
Jake Dixon is a 6’5” 205 lb. sophomore for the University of North Florida Ospreys of the Peach Belt Conference. The Right-Handed Pitcher/First Baseman is currently a weekend starter for his nationally ranked program (20th in Division II). In 4 Starts this season, Dixon has compiled a 4-0 record, 1.91 Earned Run Average, averaging better than 7 Innings Pitched per Start, Striking Out almost a batter an inning, while holding opposing hitters to a meager .155 Batting Average. Last summer in the wood bat Central Illinois Collegiate League, Jake posted a 4-1 record, making 8 Appearances-7 Starts with a 2.35 Earned Run Average. He fanned 28 batters in 46 Innings of work and also notched 1 Complete Game in being selected as an all-star Starting Pitcher. Dixon was a Baseball America 2nd team All-American and Rawlings All-American in high school before the Oakland Athletics selected him in the 18th round of the 2001 draft. Petersburg Director of Baseball Operations, Jeff Roemer added, “Jake is an important player for us. Successful pitching is a crucial element for a team’s success and he’s been impressive in both high level NCAA and summer collegiate competition.”
Joey Tolisano is a 6’0” 200 lb. redshirt-freshman for the Florida Gulf Coast University Eagles who are an NCAA Division II Independent. The switch-hitting Catcher/Third Baseman is currently batting in the middle of the lineup and manning the dish during most games. Tolisano boasts a .333 Batting Average and, more importantly, has gunned down a solid 28.6% of opposing base stealers. Last summer in the wood bat New York Collegiate Baseball League, Joey turned in a .260 clip at the plate while gunning down over 40% of attempted base stealers. Roemer commented, “Tolisano brings some attractive attributes to us because of his talent, experience, and defensive versatility. Having an accomplished Catcher that has plus tools in both dimensions of the game is what we look for.”
