Fort Myers – The FGCU baseball team swept Gustavas Aldophus 6-2 and 9-3 today at Terry Park.
In the first game, Freshman Chris Cahill picked up his third win of the season (3-1) as he pitched a complete game 2-hitter including 8 strikeouts. Cahill had a shutout in the workings until the top of the sixth when Gustavas Adolphus scored a pair of runs.
The Eagles jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings as Mike Howard singled in the games first run in the second.
The Eagles would get three in the second, two in the fourth, and one more in the fifth as they cruised to a 6-2 win.
Offensively, Chris Brown and Mike Howard led the Eagles as Brown went 2-for-3 with 2 runs scored and a RBI, while Howard went 2-for-3 with a run and a RBI. Brown had a double and a triple, while Howard stole two bags in the win.
In the second game, the Eagles displayed a hitting show as three Eagles homered including Joey Tolisano, Mike Howard, and David Cox.
Tolisano, who leads the team in homers, hit his eighth of the season, Howard hit his fourth, and Cox hit his first homer of the season.
Freshman Brian Deese picked up his second straight win of the season as the starting pitcher went three and a third innings, giving up five hits, while not allowing an earned run.
Junior Eric Jordan relieved him, and was solid once again as he finished the game out, giving up just three hits, while striking out four. Jordan did not allow an earned run as well.
Freshman lead off man Kip Perry went a perfect 3-for-3 with a run scored and a RBI, as he now hitting .381 on the season.
Chris Brown turned in another impressive game as he went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored and a pair or RBI. Brown improves his batting average to a phenomenal .460 on the season, and took the team lead in doubles with 15.
Joey Tolisano went 2-for-4 with 3 RBI, and 2 runs scored in the win. Tolisano is now tied for third in hitting with a .405 average.
Junior outfielder David Cox went 2-for-4 with 2 runs scored and 2 RBI as well. Cox is tied with Tolisano hitting .405 on the season.
Junior Chad Kennedy went 1-for-4 including his second double of the season. Kennedy is hitting .314 for the Eagles.
The Eagles improve their team batting average to a whopping .357 on the season, and improve to 26-8-1 on the season.
