Fort Myers – The FGCU baseball team lost to Barry University 7-2 Tuesday evening at Terry Park.
Barry freshman David Schmidt picked up the win as he went six innings, surrendering eleven hits, one earned run, and struck out five.
Alex Gonzalez came relieved him in the seventh, and completed the game as he pitched three innings, and did not surrender a hit.
Barry jumped out to a 3-2 lead after the third inning, and did not look back as they would add a run in the fourth, the sixth, and two in the seventh to win 7-2.
FGCU starting pitcher Tony Korson went six innings, giving up six hits, and four earned runs while striking out six.
Junior Eric Jordan relieved him in the seventh, and was automatic as he did not surrender a hit, and struck out a pair.
Offensively, the Eagles were led by freshman Jason Cooper, who hit his third home run of the season, and ended up 2-for-4 with a run scored and a RBI.
Junior David Cox went 3-for-4 with a run scored, and freshman Joey Tolisano went 2-for-5 in the loss.
Barry was led by Carlos de la Osa who hit his sixth home run of the season. De la Osa ended up 1-for-3 with three runs scored.
FGCU is now 26-9-1 on the season, and will travel to Webber International this Friday for a three-game series in Lake Wales.
