West Palm Beach – The FGCU baseball team defeated Palm Beach Atlantic for the second time this season 3-2.
Freshman Tony Korson (5-4) pitched a complete game, striking out nine, and giving up just two earned runs.
Offensively, the Eagles jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the first on a David Cox double, which scored Kip Perry.
Perry doubled in the fourth, scoring freshman Chris Garcia, which gave FGCU a 2-0 lead.
PBA answered in the bottom of the sixth to cut the lead to 2-1, but Junior David Alexander stepped up as he just missed his third home run of the season down the left field line. Alexander answered the following pitch as he singled in Pat Stubbe to give the Eagles an insurance run that would pay off.
PBA scored a run in the bottom of the ninth, and threatened to tie the game, but David Cox caught a PBA runner in between bases, forcing him into a pickle to end the game. Cox has been clutch all season in left field, stepping up numerous times with his cannon in left. He leads all outfielders with seven assists.
Kip Perry led all hitters going 2-for-4 with one run and one RBI.
The Eagles improve to 34-15-2, and will face Flagler College (#13 NAIA) this Friday and Saturday in their final three games of the season.
