Fort Myers, FL - Behind the excellent pitching of Freshman Jason Kiley, and an explosive offense, the FGCU Eagles baseball team won 10-0 over St. Anselm College to go to 17-5 on the season. The Eagles got the scoring started in the bottom of the second inning with one out when they put together four consecutive hits from Adam Masino, Derek Mollica, Mike Mathews, and Patrick Stubbe. Mollica had a solid day at the plate going 3 for 3 with three runs scored and two runs batted in. Travis Cunningham followed the attack with a perfectly executed suicide squeeze bunt that scored Mathews and made the score 3-0. The next inning was more of the same as Mike Mathews hit a grand slam to deep right center that made the score 7-0. The homerun was Mathews’ second on the season. Mathews finished the game 2 for 3 with two runs scored and four runs batted in. The Eagles would go on to add two more runs in the inning on a two run double off the bat of Jason Cooper to make the score 9-0. FGCU starter Jason Kiley cruised throughout the game to get the win and extend his record to 3-0 on the season. Kiley went the complete seven innings and gave up no runs on five hits while also striking out five. Picking up the loss for the Hawks was starter Jack Mulcahy. He surrendered seven runs on six hits over two innings of work while striking out one. The Eagles (17-5) will play vs. Central Missouri State on Saturday starting at 7:00 pm.
