Monday, March 08, 2004
Fort Myers, FL – The combination of sloppy defense and cold bats led to a 10-2 loss to Shippensburg University, the 16th ranked team in the county on Monday afternoon. The Raiders got out to an early lead in the top of the first inning. Leadoff man Chad Stecker led off the game with a single to centerfield and second baseman Ryan Lindstadt followed with a chopper that got away from shortstop Rene Ruiz to give them runners on first and second with no one out. Andy Dangler then hit a double to right center that drove in both of the runners. They went on to add another run later in the inning on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Nick Erdman to make the score 3-0. Shippensburg tacked on two more runs in the third behind four from the top of the lineup. Stecker once again led off the inning with a hit, this time a triple to right centerfield. Lindstadt drove him in with a sharp single to left field to make the score 4-0. After a fly out the Raiders got back-to-back singles from designated hitter Jared Krebs and Erdman. Erdman’s hit drove in Lindstadt for their second run of the inning and a 5-0 lead. The Raiders would put up runs in each of the next three runs to make the score 10-0 at the end of seven. The Eagles would muster two runs in the bottom of the eighth to avoid the shutout yet lose the game 10-2. Getting the win for the Raiders is starter Randy Dicken. He worked seven innings and gave up no runs on four hits while striking out 8. Taking the loss for the Eagles was starter Jason Kiley. Kiley (3-1) went three and one third innings and gave up five runs, three earned, on seven hits while striking out three. Jason Cooper, Adam Masino, and Rene Ruiz all contributed two hits a piece for the Eagles in the losing cause. The Eagles (17-7) will play vs. Indiana University of Pennsylvania starting at 7:00 pm.
