Fort Myers, FL- On Senior Day the Eagles survived a late rally to defeat Barry University 5-4 and go to 37-15 on the season. The Eagles got the scoring started in the bottom of the third with some timely hitting. With one out, Patrick Stubbe got the rally started by working a walk and Chris Brown moved him to third on a perfectly executed hit and run. With runners on the corners Rene Ruiz pushed a bunt to the first baseman that scored Stubbe and moved Brown over to second. Jason Cooper then drove in Brown with a soft single to left center that mad the score 2-0. FGCU went on to put up one more run in the next inning on an RBI single by Kip Perry. His single up the middle scored Senior Mike Howard, who had earlier doubled to lead off the inning. After the Buccaneers narrowed the Eagle lead to 3-1 in the fourth the Eagles came back with a run of their own in the bottom of the seventh. Stubbe and Brown led off the inning with back-to-back singles and Ruiz sacrificed the runners over to second and third. Jason Cooper was intentionally walked to load the bases and Adam Masino made it hurt with a sacrifice fly to deep center that scored Stubbe. Barry didn’t go down without a fight as they put up three runs in the top of the ninth to tie the score at four. With one out Cesar Aranguren hit a two run homer to left field that narrowed the score to 4-3 and they loaded the bases on a pair of singles and a walk. Alex Meneses then plated the tying run with a chopper to the second baseman to complete the rally. FGCU would answer back in the bottom of the ninth to send the seniors out on a bright note. With one out Chris Brown singled through the left side, and after a wild pitch Ruiz moved him over to third via a hard hit single to left field. As Jason Cooper took ball four the ball got away from the catcher and Brown came into score to end the game. Picking up the win for the Eagles in relief was Chris Cahill. Cahill walked two and struck out one over two thirds of an inning. Getting the loss for the Buccaneers was reliever Jon Adams. Adams worked two and a third innings and gave up one run on three hits. Leading the way for the Eagles offensively were Chris Brown and Mike Howard. Brown was 3 for 5 with two runs scored, including the game winner. Howard finished the game 1 for 4 with a double and a run scored. The Eagles (37-15) will play Tuesday at Florida Tech starting at 3:00 pm.
