Florida Gulf Coast University baseball coach Dave Tollett has announced that Rusty McKee and John Vigue have joined the Eagles coaching staff.
Entering his ninth year as a college coach, McKee spent the past two years as an assistant coach at Flagler College. He also served six years on the staff at North Florida. In addition to coordinating all recruiting efforts for the program, McKee will work extensively with defensive play.
“Rusty has a great knowledge of the game and has coached in programs that have competed at a national level”, said Tollett. “With his ability to teach the game, and with his coaching contacts around the state, Rusty will help our program make the jump to the next level.”
Vigue, a former minor league pitcher and standout at the University of South Florida, begins his first year in the college ranks. Last year he was the head coach at Palm Harbor University High School in Pinellas County. Vigue also spent the past summer as the Pitching Coach for the Loudon (VA) Rangers of the Valley Collegiate League, an NCAA sanctioned summer league.
“John has had success as both a college and professional pitcher,” said Tollett. “He knows what it is going to take to develop our pitchers and compete on a daily basis.”
The Eagles, who posted 74 wins in their first two seasons of play, begin their third season, and first year of post-season eligibility, in February.
