FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team was overlooked in the NCAA Division II preseason baseball rankings. Not anymore. After sweeping a season-opening three-game series with Albany State, FGCU was ranked 24th in the latest Division II poll released Monday by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. Defending national champion Delta State (2-0) is first, followed by Florida Southern (4-0), Central Missouri (2-1), North Florida (3-0) and Kennesaw State (3-0). In addition to Florida Southern, other FGCU opponents in the current top-30 include No. 7 Tampa, No. 16 Barry and No. 20 Rollins. This week’s poll marks the first-ever appearance for the Eagles in the weekly Top-30 Division II Poll. FGCU returns to the diamond on Wednesday, February 9 at 7 p.m. when it hosts Nova Southeastern.
