FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team jumped back into the national rankings as the Eagles are ranked No. 16 in this week’s National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association Division II poll released today. The Eagles, who just missed being ranked in the national top-25 a week ago, won five of six regional contests last week, including winning two of three games at then No. 15 Nova Southeastern in Fort Lauderdale over the weekend. FGCU (31-8 overall and 17-7 in the South Region) remains fourth in the regional rankings compiled by the NCBWA. The NCAA regional rankings are to be released next week. The top four teams in each of eight geographical regions are awarded NCAA tournament bids in May. Five teams from the south region are among the top 17 teams in the poll. Florida Southern College holds down the No.3 spot in the poll, followed by the University of Tampa at No. 5, Tusculum College at No. 12 and Rollins College at No. 17.
