FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team fell to No. 23 in this week’s NCAA Division II national poll released by the Collegiate Baseball Newspaper.
FGCU has ranked among the top-25 teams in the country in each of the past two weeks. The Eagles (16-5) were 3-1 last week after splitting a doubleheader with Albany State in Georgia and picking up home wins over non-regional foes Saginaw Valley (Mich.) State and Regis (Colo.) College.
Georgia College & State (16-2), which has handed FGCU one of its four losses, remains at No. 1. Abilene Christian (20-3) is second, followed by Cal State Chico (18-5). Tampa (18-3) and West Virginia State (5-0) switched places in the fourth and fifth positions. Seven teams from the NCAA Division II South Region, including FGCU, are in the national top-30.
The Eagles will host five games at Swanson Stadium this week, beginning with a 7 p.m. game against Post University of Connecticut on Tuesday at 7 p.m.
