Baseball Moves Up In National Polls

FORT MYERS, Fla. – The Florida Gulf Coast University baseball team continues to move up in the Top-25 of both major Division II national polls this week. FGCU (27-7, 19-5 South Region) has won 16 of its last 19 games, including four wins over teams ranked in the national top-25. After a 5-2 week that included a win over top-ranked Tampa, the Eagles are ranked No. 9 in the American Baseball Coaches Association Poll released by Collegiate Baseball Newspaper. The poll marks the first time that FGCU has been ranked in the top-10. Last week, FGCU was ranked 15th by the ABCA. For the second straight week, Tampa and Georgia College & State remained tied for the top spot. Catawba is No. 4, Florida Southern is No. 23 and Carson-Newman is No. 30. The Eagles moved up one position to No. 12 in the National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA). FGCU is one of four South Region teams ranked in the national top-25. Tampa remains No. 1 while Catawba has moved up to No. 3. Miles entered the poll this week at No. 25. The NCBWA ranks FGCU has the No. 3 team in the South behind Tampa and Catawba. FGCU travels to Miami Shores for a three-game series with Barry, the No. 6 team in the South Region, beginning Friday night at 7 p.m.
