Baseball Team Third In NCAA Regional Rankings

FORT MYERS, Fla. – Florida Gulf Coast University is ranked third in the NCAA Division II South Region Baseball rankings released Wednesday afternoon by the NCAA Division II Baseball Committee. This is the second week straight FGCU holds on to the number three position in the regional rankings which is the highest for FGCU in the two years it has been eligible for post-season play.
The Eagles (32-10) are batting .329 as a team has won four straight games heading into Saturday’s game with Lynn University.
The top 10 teams in each of eight NCAA Division II regions will be included in each ranking. Only the top six teams in each region at the end of the season receive bids to the 48-team national championship tournament. The regional tournaments are scheduled for May 18-21 at campus sites to be determined.
FGCU, which became a full-fledged member of the NCAA in 2004-05, is looking for its first NCAA tournament bid. The Eagles conclude their 54-game regular season on May 13 against Rollins.
