Houston Astros Select Stiver in MLB Draft

FORT MYERS, Fla. - Justin Stiver became the first student-athlete from FGCU to get drafted by a major professional sports league when he was selected in the first day of the Major League Baseball Amateur Draft Tuesday night. A junior right-hander, Stiver was selected in the 17th round by the defending national league champion Houston Astros. He was the 519th player selected overall. Stiver posted a 6-5 record with a 3.81 ERA as the top starter for the Eagles. Two other former FGCU players, Chris Brown ('04) and Billy Phillips ('05) were signed as undrafted free agents.
