16th Ranked Baseball Team Wins Home Opener

FORT MYERS, Fla., - The 16th ranked FGCU baseball team rebounded from a loss in their season to hammer Clark Atlanta 25-0 in the home opener at Swanson Stadium. Luis Pardo (Miami, Fla.) picked up the win in his debut with FGCU. The Eagles wasted little time erasing yesterday’s loss at Barry. FGCU plated two runs in the bottom of the first as Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) doubled to score Josh Upcurch (Cape Coral, Fla.). After adding a pair of runs in the third and four in the fourth, the Eagles were up 8-0. In the sixth inning, FGCU put the game out of reach with a nine run inning to take a 17-0 lead. Peacock led off the inning with a single as the first five Eagles of the inning reached safely. FGCU sent 14 batters to the plate, scoring nine runs on five hits in the inning. The Eagles added eight more runs in the following frame to cap the scoring at 25-0. Brauncey Jenkins was took the loss for the Panthers, who were playing their season opener. Adam Powers went 2-for-3 for Clark Atlanta. Pardo had a tremendous debut for the Eagles, going 5.0 innings while striking out seven batters and allowing a pair of hits. Derek Shaw (New Port Richie, Fla.) and Justin Miller (Belle Glade, Fla.) each went 2.0 innings and fanning three batters apiece. Five Eagles recorded multiple hit games, highlighted by Victor Rodriguez (Cape Coral, Fla.) who went 3-for-4 with six RBI. Chris Alessandria (Jacksonville, Fla.) went 2-for-4 and belted a two-run homer, the first of the season for FGCU. The Eagles and Panthers will square off tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 pm in the first game of a doubleheader at Swanson Stadium.
