WINTER PARK, Fla., – The 23rd ranked FGCU baseball team won a pitchers duel in game three with a 1-0 win at Rollins. The Tars fall to 11-7 overall, while FGCU improved to 14-5 after taking two of three from Rollins.
FGCU starter Richard Bleier (Davie, Fla.) tossed eight scoreless innings, striking out 10 while allowing five hits and four walks. Bleier was able to work around three FGCU errors to keep the Tars off the scoreboard. Rollins starter David Nathanson was just as effective, pitching eight scoreless innings and striking out 10 while allowing just four hits and two walks.
J.J. Crumbley (Tampa, Fla.) pitched two scoreless innings out of the bullpen to pick up the win and improve to 4-1 on the year. First baseman Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) brought home the winning run with the game’s only extra-base hit, a double past a diving Mike Crane in left field in the 10th. Catcher Graig Smith (Venice, Fla.) walked to lead off the 10th for FGCU, and he advanced to second on a sacrifice bunt by shortstop Stephen Rassel (Lake City, Fla.). Two batters later Peacock delivered, bringing home the go-ahead run against Rollins reliever Alex Venegas.
The Eagles will be in action again on Wednesday night when they host Winona State at 7:00 pm in Swanson Stadium.
