Wednesday, March 07, 2007
FORT MYERS, Fla., - Luis Pardo (Miami) picked up his third win of the season after pitching a complete game, four-hitter in the #23 FGCU baseball team’s 10-0 shutout of Winona State. Pardo struck out 13 batters as the Eagles improved to 15-5 while Winona State fell to 4-3 on the season. FGCU scored early and often in the contest as Steven Rassel (Lake City, Fla.) led off the game with a single. Rassel scored when Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) doubled to score the first run of the game. The Eagles tacked on a second run in the second inning as Derek Mollica (Boca Raton, Fla.) led off the second with a single and scored on a sac fly by Rassel. FGCU opened up a big lead in the bottom of the fourth, scoring four runs off of three hits and a Warrior error, taking a 6-0 lead heading into the fifth. At that point, Pardo was still perfect, and allowed his first baserunner off a pair of walks in the top of the sixth. He allowed his first hit in the seventh inning. Six Eagles recorded multiple-hit games, including Peacock who went 2-for-3 with a pair of RBI in the game. Pardo set the tone for the Eagles, limiting the Warriors to four hits while striking out 13 batters and allowing a pair of walks. FGCU will be in action again on Friday when they host #10 Central Missouri at 4:00 pm.
