Baseball Drops 10-8 Decision to #10 Central Missouri

FORT MYERS, Fla., - The #23rd ranked baseball team suffered a 10-8 loss to #10 Central Missouri. The Eagles had a 7-0 lead after three innings before the Mules rallied. The Eagles scored the games first runs in the second on a two-out single by Steven Rassel (Lake City, Fla.) that scored Richie Sowell (Madison, Fla.) and Ozzie Borrell (Hialeah, Fla.). In the third, the first four batters FGCU sent to the plate reached safely. Jason Peacock (Bartow, Fla.) laced a double to right to score a pair of runs and give the Eagles a 7-0 lead after three. The Mules answered in their half of the fourth with a leadoff homer by Nick Jaros. They continued to chip away at FGCU’s lead in the fifth with a pair of runs. FGCU got one run back in the sixth inning as Vinnie Scarduzio (Jupitor, Fla.) hit his second homer of the season. Central Missouri knotted the score at eight apiece in the seventh, scoring five runs on five hits. Then scored two more runs in the eighth inning. Gered Mochizuki gave the Mules the lead with a double that scored Clay Weatherford. Ron Marin picked up the win in relief for Central Missouri, tossing 6.1 innings while allowing four hits and one run. Mochizuki went 3-for-5 for Central Missouri while four other Mules had multiple hit games. Borrell went 3-for-5 for the Eagles who recorded 12 hits in the game. Rassel, Chris Alessandria (Jacksonville, Fla.) and Sowell each had a pair of hits for the Eagles. FGCU will be in action again on Monday when they host Stillman at Swanson Stadium.
