#25 Baseball Falls in Extra Innings to Dayton
Thursday, March 15, 2007
FORT MYERS, Fla., - The #25 ranked FGCU (17-7) baseball team fell to Dayton (5-9) 2-1 in extra innings on Thursday in the Beef O’Brady’s St. Patrick’s Week Baseball Classic. Luis Pardo (Miami) was once again dominant on the mound for the Eagles. The 6-6 junior fanned 13 batters in 8.0 innings while scattering six hits and allowing one earned run. Pardo, or his counterpart, Dayton starter Quinn Haselhorst factored in the decision. Haselhorst went 8.0 innings and allowed one run on eight hits. As dominant as Pardo was, the Eagles could never break the game open as Haselhorst was able to work out of jams most of the evening. The Eagles twice loaded the bases with one out and twice came away with no runs, including the ninth inning. On the evening, the Eagles left 13 runners on base. Ozzie Borrell (Hialeah, Fla.) attempted to carry the Eagles with a pair of extra base hits on the night. Borrell was 3-for-5 with two triples while scoring the Eagles only run. Richie Sowell (Madison, Fla.) was also 2-for-4 on the evening. The Eagles will be back in action again tomorrow night when they host Notre Dame in the Beef O’Brady’s St. Patrick’s Week Baseball Classic.
